SDI Breaks New Ground

A recent subsurface drip irrigation project with Townsend Fruit Farms and Todd Boughner of Judge Farms caught the attention of Ontario Farmer Publications.  Subsurface drip irrigation has been a steadily growing irrigation method for corn and soybean production, but is very new to the apple orchard setting.  In fact, we believe this is the first subsurface drip irrigation system in the country.  The success of this irrigation method is now catching the attention growers of all kinds.  At Townsend Fruit Farms, the hope is to more effectively deliver water to the roots of these apple trees which in turn will lead to less undersized apples.  These undersized apples end up being sold to much less profitable juice market.
